Finally splurgo has completed the circle of sax's.. With great pleasure we give you Alto Sax Loops! Right below the soprano sax and slightly above the tenor sax. The alto sax was made popular by Bird, or Yardbird or by his full name of Charlie Parker. Most jazz musicians swear by the yardbird story, we still don't know if it's really true, but it's probably as close as you will get with jazz man story's.
The most popular version is that the Jay McShann band was on its way to play a job at the University of Nebraska. As they passed a farm, the car Charlie Parker was riding in hit a chicken that ran across the road. McShann said: Charlie told the driver, "Man, go back, you hit that yardbird." They went back, and Charlie jumped out and got the chicken. When they got to Lincoln, he asked the lady who ran the boarding house where we were staying to cook it for dinner. And thus he was named 'Yardbird' for it.
