The Ocarina or “vessel flute” has probably existed since the dawn of mankind. Being a small pod of clay bearing a resonating mouthpiece and several small holes of varying sizes, the appearance, construction, and tone of ocarina varies greatly from specimen to specimen. Although ancient in design, this versatile whistle like instrument has been used with distinctive results in such modern songs as “Wild thing” (where it is the featured solo instrument) and even the main melodic element in Ennio Morricone’s masterpiece soundtrack to “The good, the bad, and the ugly”.
